We had a great weekend! We went to a Barbeque and Poker Tournament on Saturday. The tournament is hosted by Daniel's boss every year and there are usually 20-30 players competing for the title of Champion. I did ok last year but was eliminated well before the end of the night. This year I was determined to improve in the standings.
We started out in groups of 8 players (3 tables) and I held my own. I was never way ahead in the chip count but I managed not to lose too much in a single turn. Player after player at our table went all in until it was just four of us left. Then Daniel and I ended up facing each other in a showdown. :-) Luckily we didnt mind what happened as long as one of us won so it was all very friendly. I won the hand and then there were three.
Around this time people were going out left and right at the other tables. I knew if I hung on just a bit I'd make it to the final table. And sure enough, one more person went out at our table and I had made it! That was the good news. The bad news was I only had "$800" worth of chips. The blinds had just gone up to $800! So I had one chance to play a hand before I was out! I waited a couple of hands until I had pretty good cards and I went for it. Unfortunately I lost at my one shot at the final table. But I made it there - and I was very happy!
