Last Friday was Labor Day here in Hong Kong which meant Daniel and I both had a three day weekend. We decided this was the perfect opportunity to check out Beijing and the Great Wall of China. I've been really looking forward to seeing the Great Wall for a long time. When I saw the Taj Mahal back in 2004 it was so much more breathtaking in person than any picture you could ever take. I knew the Great Wall would be the same way. Of course, by hiking along a small section of the Wall you don't really get an idea of the full magnitude of it (4,000 miles long!), but it's pretty exciting to hike along the Wall and think about the history.
We left Friday morning and arrived mid afternoon in Beijing. After checking into our hotel and relaxing for a bit, we made our way to the Temple of Heaven. The Temple of Heaven is a complex of Taoist buildings which was visited by the Emperors in the Ming and Qing dynasties to pray for good harvest.
By early evening many of the buildings inside Temple of Heaven were closed, but we were able to walk through the park and enjoy music from the locals and enjoy the sights.
We made our way back to the hotel early because we had a big day ahead of us. Saturday morning we were going to climb the Great Wall!

Check out the guy's head (in the striped shirt.) We took this video because the guy sat there with no expression on his face and would only bop his head in time with the music. He looked ridiculous!
